We are offering a part time, equity research internship in Houston, Texas.  We are an investment bank with a Houston office devoted to the oil and gas sector.  We primarily research publicly traded equities of oil and gas companies.

This internship can be a paid internship or unpaid for course credit, approved by the intern’s school.

The intern will gain experience in financial statement analysis, including modeling in excel, income statements, cash flows, balance sheets and the resulting estimates of earnings and cash flow per share and EBITDA.  This position involves a heavy amount of excel modeling, including updating excel models, creating excel models and financial analysis using excel models.  Due to the recent severe decrease in oil prices, the intern will also gain experience in credit analysis, including analyzing high yield bonds and distressed debt.
The intern will gain experience in modeling in excel macroeconomic factors influencing the supply and demand for oil and natural gas, such as oil and gas production trends, GDP growth of key oil consuming economies, and oil and gas drilling and completion activity and trends.
The intern will further benefit from working in a professional research environment and from networking opportunities and introductions provided by the senior analyst.

The intern will need to have a strong interest in the oil and gas business and financial analysis.  The intern needs advanced excel skills, including experience with Goal Seek, VLOOKUP, pivot tables and constructing graphs and charts.  Strong Power Point skills also required. Writing ability is a plus but not required.

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for growing a Premier book of business and achieving high client retention rates by providing each client with valuable service offerings, and competitive investment performance by fulfilling the role of trusted advisor. Must be able to manage a large number of accounts and conduct complex client and partner presentations and meetings on the firm's investment strategy, account performance and new products. Responsible for promoting the core values, competitive position and profitable growth of HighMark.
Major Responsibilities:
40% Portfolio Management and Model Implementation:
  • Manage individual, trust and model based accounts to ensure they are consistent with the client's established short and/or long-term investment policies while utilizing HighMark's investment philosophy.
  • Must be able to construct a portfolio and develop investment policies that maximize portfolio performance consistent with the client's investment objectives and acceptable level of risk.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring all the investment models supporting the Premier and Brokerage clients are kept current.
40% Client Service, Retention and Growth:
  • Strong focus on managing client account retention to meet the company's annual growth objectives and to support our multiple distribution team members.
  • Develop new and deepen existing client and partner relationships with Premier Trust Officers, Priority Relationship Advisors and SFAs to support new business development, relationship management, and marketing in order to support investment needs and expand our collaborative culture.
  • Promote the role of trusted advisor and be able to resolve complex client account issues and provide our clients an extraordinary experience.
 10% Business Operations:
  • This position has operational and administrative duties required to support model based products.
10% Risk Management:
  •  Actively ensure compliance with the Bank's Code of Ethics, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act, information security and suspicious activity reporting requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in any required corporate and business line training in these areas. Understand and follow all operating procedures and internal suspicious activity referral requirements and processes, as required for this position.
  • Responsibility for all fiduciary and SEC compliance responsibilities within their accounts.
Additional Information:  
  • Over 5 years of investment experience is required.
  • Strong insight and knowledge of finance, economics and general business.
  • Ability to effectively present investment strategies to clients and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work toward team objectives with creativity, innovation, and initiative.
  • An ability to work independently and a willingness to adapt under time sensitive deadlines are necessary.
  • A master's degree and/or CFA are preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of trust is beneficial.

Financial / Investor Relations Analyst, Diamondback Energy, Inc. - Midland, Texas
This position will report to the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development as well as the Director of Investor Relations. Position will have significant access to C-level executives throughout the organization in all functions.  Role will primarily focus on investor relations and build to include business development, corporate development and financial analysis.  This role is for Diamondback Energy, but will have a portion of its time dedicated to Viper Energy Partners.
  • Investor Relations
    • Follow industry intelligence and pass on pertinent information to senior executives
    • Manage company earnings schedule, releases, presentations and conference call scripts
    • Liaise extensively with investment analysts and investors to discuss the company story as well as coordinate meetings with company management and answer questions from the investment community
    • Manage and schedule the investor relations department for industry conferences
  • Corporate and Business Development
    • Prepare monthly deliverables for senior executives and the Board of Directors
    • Manage spreadsheets and databases with the accounting department
    • Manage corporate financial model
    • Assist in overall strategic planning and financial forecasting for the Company
